The 15 Steps Challenge focuses on seeing care through a patient or carer’s eyes, and exploring their first impressions. Originally developed by the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement, the suite of toolkits have been refreshed and updated and a new guide for commissioners added.

General practices are working together, but once the purpose, vision and function of the collaboration are clear there are a number of routes to consider.

Understanding all the options available is a crucial next step. Joint working agreement, merger, super-partnership, or develop a company – and do you really need to change at all? There are several forms a company could take including limited by guarantee or by shares. Similar options are also available in the form of a community interest company. More recently super-partnerships have developed and this form has some advantages. Depending on function you may not need a formal company or partnership arrangement.

This workshop on 31 January in Manchester, 13 February in London and 7 March in Birmingham will help you work through the answers, with an experienced lawyer who has supported a number of practices to work together effectively ensuring the issues such as staff sharing and indemnity are covered.
